OUR Sex therapy in NYC.

OUR sex therapy is focused, effective, and highly structured. Sex can be diffucult to talk about, and many couples therapists avoid the topic altogether. We create a calm, safe space to work on sexuality, in both individual and couples settings.

When desire fades, intimacy feels like pressure, or something just isn’t working, it’s easy to feel alone or stuck in silence. OUR clinicians are all trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). That training helps partners understand what’s happening beneath the surface, to create a more lasting change. Sex therapy is talk therapy: there is no physical contact in sessions. We welcome all genders, orientations and relationship styles, and provide a sex positive, kink-affirming therapeutic space.

OUR areas of expertise:

  • Low or mismatched desire

  • Painful sex and intimacy avoidance

  • Erectile concerns and performance anxiety

  • Orgasm issues

  • Reconnecting with sexuality after trauma

  • Exploring sexual needs, boundaries, and identities

Sex therapy FAQs

What is sex therapy?
Sex therapy is talk therapy focused on sexual concerns and intimacy. It helps individuals and couples understand what’s getting in the way of a satisfying sex life, and make changes that feel right for them.

Do I need a partner?
No. Many people come on their own. If you have a partner, you can start individually, together, or a mix of both.

I feel embarrassed talking about this. Is that normal?
Completely. Almost everyone feels nervous at first. Our clinicians talk about sex every day, calmly and without judgment, and you decide what to share and when. Most people find the awkwardness fades quickly.

Are your therapists inclusive?
Yes. We welcome clients of all genders, sexual orientations, relationship styles and backgrounds, and we don’t judge consensual sexual interests or relationship choices.

Should I see a doctor too?
Sexual concerns can have physical causes, such as hormones, medications or pelvic floor issues. Your therapist may suggest checking in with a doctor or pelvic floor physical therapist, and with your permission can coordinate with them.

What approach do you use?
OUR sex therapy draws on the foundation of EFT, behavioral, psychodynamic, and somatic sex therapy practices. We use a three-tiered approach that combines emotional processing, cognitive changes, and somatic interventions, alongside practical tools for the specific concern.

How long does sex therapy take?
It depends on what you’re working on. Some concerns improve in a few months; others take longer. OUR sex therapy is highly structured and focused, so we are able to be effective in a shorter amount of time.

Is it confidential?
Yes. What you share stays between you and your therapist, with a few legal exceptions, such as a serious risk of harm, which your therapist will explain in your first session.

Does insurance cover sex therapy?
Most of OUR clinicians are in-network with Cigna and Aetna. Coverage depends on your plan and the reason for treatment, and we’ll help you check your benefits before you start. For other plans, we provide superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. We see clients in person at our Chelsea and Williamsburg offices and online anywhere in New York State. Many people find it easier to talk about sex from home.

How do I get started?
Book a free 15-minute consultation. It’s a private conversation to answer your questions and match you with the right therapist.
