Meet OUR Team: Devora

Devora is one of the most talented clinicians I have met. She has the ability to get to the core of her clients’ struggles, with abundant empathy and patience. Her fascinating life experiences certainly shaped her therapeutic work. Here is how Devora explains it:

What drew you to becoming a therapist?

I grew up in a diverse and transient community, which I credit for creating an appreciation for how people’s experiences influence their present selves and life stories. This drew me to wanting to understand people on a deeper level - their whys, whats, and hows.

What kind of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who are dedicated to growth, self-discovery, and who engage curiously with the process of therapy.

My clients are mostly people navigating the impacts of grief and trauma, or exploring their relationships and personal identities. No two journeys are alike, and this is especially true with these experiences. Openness, reflection, and vulnerability go a long way towards self-understanding and healing.

What’s one experience that shaped how you practice today?

In my first semester of graduate school, I took a developmental psychology course. This added layers to my perspective on mental health experiences, adding softness, compassion, and an appreciation for the importance of context, which I have brought into my work since.

What do you hope clients take away from working with you?

My aim is for clients to walk away from sessions feeling a sense of clarity, self-trust, and safety. I view therapy as a collaborative process, and hope this is felt and embodied.

What’s a book, show, or podcast you’re currently enjoying?

I’m re-reading High Fidelity by Nick Hornby for the umpteenth time. This is one of my favorite novels, which beautifully delves into the messiness of relationships, love, self-understanding, and personal narratives with humor, deftness, and a keen sense of the human experience.

My favorite podcast at the moment is Good Hang with Amy Poehler! It’s fun, lighthearted, and sharp, and captures the power and catharsis of quality time spent with friends.
